I recently returned from a conference in San Diego, where my company had originally booked me at the U.S. Grant Hotel. After spending one night there, I was disappointed by the experience: the room was small and dark, and my concerns were not resolved despite my lifetime Marriott Bonvoy status. While walking nearby, I noticed the Guild Hotel and decided to stop at the front desk to ask about availability. Jose promptly greeted me and, although the hotel was sold out that evening, he found a great rate for a nice room for the remaining nights of my stay. In addition to Jose, every staff member I encountered was professional, welcoming, and helpful—especially Monique, Alexis, and Yan. Because I chose to take Amtrak instead of driving from Los Angeles, the Guild Hotel’s location is less than five minutes from the train station was especially convenient. The hotel is also in an excellent area, close to downtown, the Gaslamp Quarter, and Seaport Village. Based on this experience, I am already planning a leisure trip back to San Diego and will stay at the Guild Hotel again.

I had a wonderful stay at The Guild Hotel and would absolutely return. The room was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and smelled fresh from the moment I walked in. Even though the hotel was undergoing some construction, my stay still felt polished and peaceful. The courtyard was especially lovely, and the hotel has so much character, including a speakeasy and other unique spaces I would like to explore more fully on a future visit. The staff made the experience exceptional. I arrived very late with a significant amount of luggage and event materials, and the valet and front desk team were incredibly helpful. Kash was especially warm, attentive, and professional, helping me get everything safely up to my room and making the arrival process feel effortless. Lexi was also wonderful and assisted me with genuine care. As a transgender person of color traveling for business, I deeply appreciated how respectful, welcoming, and comfortable the entire staff made me feel. Every interaction was kind and professional. I also ate at the hotel restaurant, and the food was excellent. The atmosphere was beautiful, and I had a memorable experience there as well. One small challenge was accessibility at the front entrance, since the visible approach involved stairs and the alternative route was not immediately obvious. Clearer signage for an accessible entrance would be helpful. A refrigerator was not included in my room, though I understand one may be available upon request, which I would do on a future visit. Overall, this was an excellent stay. The room, service, atmosphere, and hospitality all stood out. I am grateful to the team and look forward to returning.

My second time staying at the Guild, stayed there last year so decided to stay there again for my visit this year. When I arrived I saw that they were renovating the lobby. My room was on the second floor. First night was fine, second night, I was awakened at 4 a.m. to the sound of hammers and drills, which never stopped. Not sure why a hotel would be doing renovations at 4 in the morning, or why they would put people on the second floor directly above the construction work. When I complained, my breakfasts were comped, but I never really got an explanation as to why that happened in the first place. A surprising lapse for a Marriott property, they are normally very well run (and all other aspects of the hotel were again fine). I would also mention that on the street facing side, there is a bit of street noise at night, but it does quiet down by around 10.
