“5 night with barely any AC and dirty dishes”

We returned to the HHI Beach and Tennis resort this year for the second year in a row. This resort is great and the unit we stayed in Admirals Row last year was perfectly fine. There were barely any units available this summer in those buildings due to a large scale fire sprinkler project. We stayed in ocean villas building B this year and the location overall was 5 stars. The unit, B220, was a 1 star. The photos are very old and the unit is very outdated, dingy, and needed major repairs. We pulled many dishes from the cabinets that hadn't been cleaned and had old food from a previous renter on them. The main reason we chose this unit is because the captain bunks had guardrails on the top bunk and the units without them feel unsafe for even an 8, almost 9 year old. The first day we checked in we noticed the unit was extremely hot. The AC was not on and when I turned it on, it was locked out at being set to lower than 68. It took about an hour to realize that the main bedroom had no airflow whatsoever. It was also obvious that there had been some recent repair because a portion of the ceiling in the kitchen/hallway was newly painted a much lighter white than the other areas. We reported the HVAC issue around 5:00PM the night we got there and were told about 2 hours later that the were unable to get anyone out to look at the issue until the next day, but offered to bring a fan. It was a very uncomfortable night of sleep and the next day it was difficult to get any information. The HVAC tech came late in the afternoon and informed us that the supply line was collapsed and they would have to cut the ceiling out to repair. Once we were able to speak with someone in the management office, they did try to make an effort to move us, however with it being the week of the 4th of July, they were only going to be able to move us for a few nights before needing to move again and the unit they were going to move us to did not have the guard rails on the bunk beds. They did comp us two nights, which we appreciated, however it was a disappointing stay overall with how hot it was in the unit the entire stay. We really do like this resort a lot and want to be able to stay here again in the future, however these units need to be maintained much better and I wish there was a better way to know what you're going to get when it's unclear how old the listing photos are.
