“Outstanding staff, but rooms in dire need of renovation”

I recently stayed at this property and had a mixed experience. Overall, it was a very average stay, but there were some definite highs and lows. To start with the positive, the morning front desk and breakfast attendant was absolute gold—exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. She truly stood out and made the morning much brighter. The lobby area itself was average and perfectly acceptable for a standard stay. However, the rooms themselves are a different story. They are very dated and currently in bad condition. During my stay, I noticed torn curtains and heavily worn carpets; the rooms are in desperate need of a total renovation. On the bright side, the air conditioning worked incredibly well and kept the room cool, but it did emit a noticeable, musty smell whenever it ran. If you just need a place to crash and appreciate great hospitality, the staff makes it bearable, but management seriously needs to invest in updating the accommodations.

“Too Hot for Comfort”

The good is that our room was large , comfortable and clean. The really good is that in spite of terrible winter ice that necessitated our stop, April helped me chose a room when we were on the road and solve our issues. The not so great is that the chosen room was not available, and the front desk person wasn't a problem solver type. Then the heater in our room would not cycle off so it was 80+ degrees when on or the system needed to be turned off. When asked to check on it the above mentioned front desk person was initially unable to be located, then provided no resolution except to turn on the a/c to cool the room down. I also needed more coffee and again, no front desk person. We left fairly early and Amo was very empathetic upon checkout.

Hampton Inn, Smyrna, TN, Oct 29-30 2025. If there was a two and a half rating I would give it that. I arrived after sunset so it was dark. Wasn't sure where the main entrance was since I had never been there, but eventually found it. The 'carport' entrance area, where you unload and take your luggage in, was so poorly lit I thought I was going in the back door. Well, I wasn't. Turns out the main entrance 'carport' has 9 lights in the ceiling, only 2 of the 9 lights were working, 80% were NOT working! Other items that were noted: the light in the middle of the elevator call button, on the third floor, did not work. You'd press the button and the light wouldn't come on so you thought maybe you didn't press it hard enough, so you'd press it again, and again, and then you'd here the elevator arrive. The press of the button did actually call the elevator, the light just didn't work---annoying. The parking lot lights were virtually non existent. Glad I had a flashlight in my car. It's pretty bad that I have to use a flashlight to go to my car in a Hampton Inn parking lot. Most of the lights were out or simply not working. Seems to be a theme here-don't they sell light bulbs in Tennessee? Either the shower curtain in my room was way too short or the shower curtain rod was mounted way too high. In any event, the curtain wouldn't stay in the tub, since it was too short, and I had water all over the floor when I showered. That is poor work. It's even worse that this kind of work was accepted to begin with. You mean to tell me no one noticed this when the shower curtain was installed. Simply poor work. Also, you have to be a contortionist to reach the toilet paper. One side of the holder was really loose, too. The electrical outlets on the shelf between the beds didn't work. When you would try to plug something the plug would just fall out. It was like the guts of the duplex were missing. I had to crawl under the shelf to plug my phone charger in. In my opinion, it seems this hotel simply does not pay attention to details. The room was clean, beds made well, so that stuff was neat and tidy. It is the other items that simply were not, and are not, attended to very well, if they are attended to at all. Not sure I'll ever stay there again. I'll just drive right on by Smyrna next time and head down the road a bit further and find another Hampton, or Hilton Garden Inn and stay there instead.
