The hotel makes a good first impression from the outside. We stayed on the second floor, where the hallway carpets were noticeably cleaner than the filthy ones downstairs. The elevator was slow and had an unpleasant odor. Our room was a decent size, and the carpet appeared relatively clean. However, it’s clear housekeeping only does the bare minimum—there were candy wrappers under the bed and behind the loveseat. Outlet placement was inconvenient. There was no outlet on the left side of the bed, which made things difficult since I use a CPAP machine and usually sleep on that side. Swapping sides was uncomfortable. Also, if you rely on your phone alarm, keep in mind the nearest outlet might be across the room. The bed itself was on the firm side. As someone in my 50s, I woke up feeling it in my joints the next morning. In terms of safety, it’s always a toss-up in a small desert town like Midland, but both my personal vehicle and the U-Haul I was driving were secure overnight. That gave me peace of mind. On the positive side, both the staff and other guests were very friendly. Breakfast was a highlight—they used real eggs, which none of the other four hotels we stayed at during our trip from Georgia did. Most places served bland boil-in-a-bag eggs (like in the Army), but not here. They also had the iconic Texas-shaped waffles, which always seem to taste better—go figure. Overall, I would recommend this hotel. It’s pet-friendly, the room was decent, and we felt safe. A few fixes would make it even better, but it got the job done for our stop in Midland. P.S. the AC was on point. Kept our room very cold.
