“Ok but not great”

Selected this property to stay closer to the airport because of an early flight. Arrived around 9pm. Young lady at the front desk seemed disturbed by my arrival. Very short and not friendly. Room had clearly not been vacuumed. Debris/crumbs all over the floor but I was too tired to switch rooms. ... more

Selected this property to stay closer to the airport because of an early flight. Arrived around 9pm. Young lady at the front desk seemed disturbed by my arrival. Very short and not friendly. Room had clearly not been vacuumed. Debris/crumbs all over the floor but I was too tired to switch rooms. Breakfast had nice options and lady at desk when I left was pleasant. Would not intentionally choose this hotel again but not a terrible choice if you need something near the airport or for a quick trip.

Hilton brand is almost always our first choice when booking hotel stays. This facility mostly measured up to our high expectations physically, but we did encounter a significant problem which complicated our overnight stay. We booked one night here due to the hotel's proximity to the airport and the stay/park/fly option, as well as the 24-hour airport courtesy shuttle. We were flying out very early the next morning and needed a ride to the airport at 5:00 a.m. Though I phoned in advance to verify the long-term parking situation and airport shuttle, we were not told until check-in that the shuttle wasn't currently operating between the hours of 11:00 pm and 7:00 am due to a temporary staffing shortage. It had been discontinued two weeks prior, until further notice. We were flabbergasted when the desk attendant advised us to call an Uber in the morning and submit the receipt for credit to our hotel bill. I can only imagine the hassle and time involved in trying to get reimbursement. And what about guests who don't have an Uber account? How do they get to the airport? This shuttle schedule change should certainly be updated on the hotel's website. Thankfully, Homewood Suites is directly across the street from another Hilton Brand hotel which also advertises an airport shuttle. I phoned the Hampton Inn, explained our dilemma, and asked the desk attendant if it would be possible for us to ride their airport shuttle at 5:00 a.m. The attendant was most gracious in offering us the last two available seats on her shuttle. God bless her. So we ended up walking across the street towing massive amounts of luggage to catch the sister hotel's airport shuttle. The other issues we encountered at Homewood Suites were less stressful. There was no desk attendant at the check-in desk and, in his place, was a sign that advised visitors "We Will Be Right Back." We waited . . . and waited, as did another guest whose room key wasn't working. When I booked this hotel, I requested a room on a high floor away from the elevators because I'm a light sleeper. Instead, we'd been assigned a room on the first floor near the lobby. I informed the desk attendant that this arrangement wouldn't work, so we were eventually reassigned a room on the 4th floor away from the elevator. Turns out it was a good thing I insisted because there is no carpet at the door entrance and you can hear hallway noise as though it's inside your own room. A family with young children came and went several times, raising a happy ruckus, and I heard other guests talking outside the door after 11:00 pm. Having said all that, there are a few features at Homewood Suites that were better than the norm and deserve mentioning. First, it wasn't freezing in the hotel or in our room. Most times, I have to put on a sweater when I arrive at a hotel until I can heat the room above 65 degrees, but this was comfortable from the first minute. Second, raw sugar is provided in the room with the coffee service. A big kudos to management for providing a non-toxic coffee sweetener. Third, I was impressed to find separate recycle bin containers in our room - another feature that's far too rare in hotels. I appreciate the Homewood suite's concern for the planet, which is also evidenced by the wall dispensers for personal care products, rather than single use plastic containers. Our king suite was lovely, large and nicely furnished with a small kitchen (stove, refrigerator, sink, dishwasher, microwave, tableware and cutlery), a dinette, living room area, lots of closets and dresser space - all the necessities for a long-term stay. The bed was incredibly comfortable, as always at Hilton brand facilities. If I was rating Homewood Suites solely on the room features, it would merit about 4.9 circles. Hopefully management will resolve its logistical issues for future guests.
