We just returned from our first trip to Vero Beach and we stayed at the Compton hotel. This place was ideally situated to the downtown shopping and dining area. Everyone at the hotel was extremely accommodating especially the front desk manager Jonathan and Ashley. They were both extremely helpful in getting us into a beautiful room overlooking the pool. We loved everything about the room and hotel and we highly recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in Vero Beach.

“Above expectations with one big exception”

First the good. Staff is 10 star and go out of their way to please guests. We were greeted by valet. You can only valet park your car. Offered champagne when we walked into lobby. Our room was not ready and they said they would text us when it was ready. Headed to Publix to get snacks and received a call from front desk that room was ready. We received a text every morning g asking if we needed anything. One morning asked for shampoo and it was at our door in a minute. Beach staff will set up your chair and umbrella. I like that these are included in the resort fee as I have been to places where they charge a resort fee and want more money for an umbrella. My wife stepped out of the pool and the attendant was waiting for her with a towel. Housekeeping bent over backwards to provide anything we could ask for. There is coffee in lobby in the morning and popcorn and drinks in the afternoon. There are always a variety of beverages available in lobby and cold bottled water at pool. Beach service was also excellent. The room is very nice. Perfect size. Bathroom had soaking tub and good size shower and two sinks. We didn’t watch tv but it is oddly placed facing the side of the room. Bed was comfortable. The thermostat and air conditioning worked well. So all of the above is five stars. THE BAD-I think I was misled about the room. They touted a room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard when I made my reservation (which for 4 days was $1000 more than a lower level room.). It is not a COURTYARD it is the parking lot/street. The hotel is a u shape with the u facing the street. I never saw anyone sitting on their balcony to stare at the parking lot during our stay. I asked several times for the less expensive room- I would have e preferred to look at a brick wall then stare at the parking lot. Simply put-the reservations desk completely mislead me. If you are not willing to pay for ocean view I would go somewhere else. Really left a bad taste in my mouth for an otherwise exceptional property.

“Beware the ocean front suites”

Beautiful spot. Restaurant fine. Staff lovely. So why only three stars? We’ve been almost every Easter since they opened. We don’t skimp on rooms - last year our ocean front was ocean off to the side … I worried I booked the suite incorrectly … didn’t say anything and wondered if I’d hit water view instead of ocean front … this year I was careful - ocean front suite … well over $1000 a night - I got to the front desk and explained how unhappy I’d been the year before (having had many good years) and I wanted to make sure this year ocean front was ocean front - he reassured me it was and it was one of the larger suites … I should have gone up and checked … the living room looks over condos and in the distance you see the ocean- you can’t hear a single wave break … the bedroom looks over the living room so nothing at all. The real ocean front suites have a bedroom and living room that both look at the ocean and if you leave the windows open at night you go to sleep listening to the waves … No idea how to book correctly going forward as we didn’t skimp - and we’re still not where I thought I paid for … so the weekend will cost us over 5000 and I think for that kind of money I need to figure out how to get what’s advertised. All in all feel like I’m living in a bait and switch.

“Excellent Customer Service and Location; incredibly poor marketing”

We booked a 2 bedroom suite for four nights for our family over Presidents’ Day weekend. Upon checking in, I was shocked at the accommodations. The “main” bedroom had a King but was so small you could not even open the closet doors and could barely walk around the perimeter of the bed. No bathroom, one very small window, nowhere to put our luggage! The second bedroom was smaller, and filled with a queen bed, no windows at all and no bathroom. A bathroom with one sink in the hallway with one sink for the four of us. A tiny sitting area at the end of the hallway with a very small pull out couch. The hallway was a long, dark, solid wall with no windows, making the entire "suite" dark. To their credit, management was amazing. We were going to check out and they provided a discounted rate for the first night and added a complimentary single, basic room, that is usually reserved as an extra bedroom for the "real" two bedroom suites. Jonathan, who was the manager on duty should be commended because he was extremely professional and accommodating. I heard another guest at the front desk complaining about the same issue and another, who was unhappy with the cleanliness of her room and checked out. That said, Jonathan and the rest of the staff including the valet were impressive. The valet allowed us unlimited in/out for our car with no complaints and were very friendly and fast. Kira, who was one of our waitresses at Cobalt (where the food was very good) was perfect. We also had a great waitress at Heaton’s on Sunday night. If it weren’t for the staff and the location, I would be giving this stay 2 stars. I feel that I was completely mislead by the website when booking the 2 bedroom suite. There are 16 different room types, so do your research!
