“Great Resort!”

We think the best resort on Efate Vanuatu. Our third visit. The staff are amazing, the view from our bungalow to the sea is divine. Always a Taxi outside to take you into Port Vila. We will be back.

Breakas is a beautiful, rustic resort with an amazing beachfront setting. It is so picturesque and you never tire of the sound of the waves lapping the shore. The accommodation is basic but adequate and the rooms are meticulously serviced everyday. We had a beach front fare and our room (111) was much bigger than our friends in 109. The sand is raked all day everyday to keep it looking beautiful and the sand runs throughout the whole resort. Some have said this is annoying but I found it just adds to the charm. The restaurant serves amazing dishes and the Italian chef delivered outstanding quality food. Breakfast on the other hand, not so great. The included brekky was basic and the menu (chargeable) was hit and miss, and sometimes cold. The omelette was the standout option and was delicious. The major drawback is the lack of aircon in the bedrooms. The ceiling fan in our room was high up and ineffective so we were pretty sleep deprived. We requested a pedestal fan which was delivered on the second request, but was broken and didn't work. If there were rooms with aircon I would book this resort again in a heartbeat as the people are lovely (big shout out to Manti), the resort location stunning and restaurant dining outstanding. A little investment would go a long way!

A good location with handy access to busses and taxis about 10 minutes to town. Handy dairy across the road. Went with a friend for 7 nights Resort could definitely benefit from some updating, ie work needed for safer access from bar to back seating, safer steps from beach to pool, especially as there were older guests. The breakfast is basic. One toaster was not adequate for the number of guests (as previously stated in earlier reviews). Insect covers for the fruit required as the flies were very evident (also in earlier reviews) Waiting times for the meals was up to 1 hour which is not good for some. To keep things simple I paid for my meals as I had them which was great. The majority of the staff were extremely helpful including waitresses, housekeepers and security. We had a dispute with a duty manager on the Melanesian buffet night as we had booked a table for 5.30 in advance yet on the night we were told to come back at 6.30 as the chef was too busy - really? The manager did eventually apologise and on our final day even offered to get me a coffee, not aware of the drama that was being caused by reception regarding an earlier pick up time which they had not told us about, nor made any attempt to leave a note or phone call for us. The rude attitude of the receptionist to my friend was disgusting customer service - unbelievable for the hospitality industry. Receptionist told us we had to go NOW or we wd miss check in. (Which was not open for an hour after we got to airport.) We were subjected to the aggressive attitude of the transfer driver to the point where he tried to drive off with our cases and 2 other guests who told us. Pleased to see an ATM in reception but it was out of order for our entire stay despite being told 2-3 times it wd be fixed The infinity pool was great. Found the current in the sea needed to be respected if u wanted to get further out for snorkeling which is average. The holiday was tainted with the dramas caused by the staff which was a shame as we paid good money to have a relaxing holiday C Bethell

Okay my review as follows. After our original flight booking, our flght dates and times were cancelled. Third time lucky!! We had to change number of nights etc, cancel bookings through other providers and of course parking at Auckland International Airport. Anyway our airport transfer was there and off we went. We arrived at Breakas before check in and waited till 2 pm. I was delighted to see the atm in lobby, alas out of order, and remained so for next 5 days,I used an atm in town. We were assigned room 124. My travelling companion shall hereby be referred to as my Roomie. One single, one double bed. We immediately put cushions around the wooden corners to prevent our lower leg being slashed. Very tight squeeze and hazardous for night time bathroom visits. The shower shows green dot to right, red dot to left, but its actually the other way around!! We lit the coil for mozzys and other flying things straight away. We went to dinner at 5.30 pm as Roomie has a medical condition requiring early dinner eats. We had Kamana as our Waitress. Exceptional service from this young lady. A total asset to Breakas. Our food took over an hour to come out, not her fault tho. Tables and chairs in the sand beside pool novel but not functional when trying to get in our out!! Suggestion here Breakas.. instead of wasting man/woman time, put a charafe of water on each table, then only that requires filling!! Next day we made a booking at 5.30 pm for the next 6 nights. We sat in Pavillion 2 nd night. Cindy took 20 mins to even acknowledge we were sitting there!! And finally took our order. Another hour wait for food to arrive!! So not good for Roomies condition as its now 7 pm. 2 lovely ladies beside us asked Cindy about there orders and were told “You just have to wait the queue Darling” and walked off.!! This was Fire night. Might be a great idea to include Donations accepted on the sign in the foyer. Most tables around us were caught out with not having taken any Vatu to dinner. Souvenir Shop. Could be fantastic, but its not!! Okay Roomie had a tour and was arriving back late, at 6pm. So I went down and informed reception of this!! Estella our waitress, another assest to Breakas!! So Melanesian night, we were not going to attend as hve seen before and Roomie had food poisoning, we were not at Breakas!! 5.30 pm we arrive for dinner to be told, chef busy cooking for Melanesian night…and because we hadn’t booked for that basically we will have to wait till 6.30 pm to beable to order from menu. I had the consideration to inform you we were going to be 1/2 hr late one night but if you crossed checked your bookings, you should have at least informed us!! So off we went to Cafe Villa, not expecting to head out!! Highly recommend, as an alternative to pizza or Italian We also dined at Waterfront Restaraunt which was exceptional. A big shout out to Susan for the house keeping side of things. Also to Amos and Sailis, you were wonderful security guards. Thankyou. AND finally… last mirning. We had a shuttle booked for 11.15 pickup through our NZ provider, I actually went to reception for a bandaid at 9.30 am to be told our pickup is now. I said no its 11.15 am, and walked back to room. Rebecca followed me and informed us it was 9.30 am. What and when did things change. 5.47 pm night before. I asked why were we not informed, her reply, “you were out to dinner” . I said we were back by 7.30 pm!!! We even had a cocktail so were in bar area, still no one approached us. Maybe could have pinned a note to our door or maybe slip note under door, (there was a big enough gap lol). So we hurried as best we could with Atmosphere guy harrassing us to hurry up. Rebecca said that check in will close and no flight for us. Her attitude towards the situation was that it was our stuff up. NO it was yours!! So we get to the airport checkin not even open for another hour!! Meanwhile our flight delayed 2 hours. No communication from Airline regards this, so hence a 5 hour wait at airport!!!! My roomie even phoned Breakas from airport to mention how rude Rebecca was to me. Uncalled for and totally unacceptable!! Breakfast. It crops up alot in previous reviews. One 4 slice toaster for the whole resort. Like honestly invest in a few more so guests are not having to queue up. Invest in some netting coverlets so flies are not buzzing around and remove butter from floating in water. Put yoghurt bowl on a dish of ice instead of just sitting there. And replenish supplies till at least 9.45 am!!! So lastly please do not use that reply phrase… your concerns will be shared with our team as we continue to improve our services and facilities. As I can see that this is not the case in sone areas. Finally it may seem trivial to some readers my comments on some matters, but its also concerns to quite a few other guests as well in passing conversations. Regards Lorraine Howard
