Breakas is a beautiful, rustic resort with an amazing beachfront setting. It is so picturesque and you never tire of the sound of the waves lapping the shore. The accommodation is basic but adequate and the rooms are meticulously serviced everyday. We had a beach front fare and our room (111) was much bigger than our friends in 109. The sand is raked all day everyday to keep it looking beautiful and the sand runs throughout the whole resort. Some have said this is annoying but I found it just adds to the charm. The restaurant serves amazing dishes and the Italian chef delivered outstanding quality food. Breakfast on the other hand, not so great. The included brekky was basic and the menu (chargeable) was hit and miss, and sometimes cold. The omelette was the standout option and was delicious. The major drawback is the lack of aircon in the bedrooms. The ceiling fan in our room was high up and ineffective so we were pretty sleep deprived. We requested a pedestal fan which was delivered on the second request, but was broken and didn't work. If there were rooms with aircon I would book this resort again in a heartbeat as the people are lovely (big shout out to Manti), the resort location stunning and restaurant dining outstanding. A little investment would go a long way!

The resort is about 10 minutes drive from town. There is no free shuttle. Set taxi fare was 3500VUT from airport. Our initial garden fare (bungalow) was a distance from reception. No paths, just beach sand that is constantly raked by the workers throughout the day. Fares are very basic. No bottled water, no umbrella, no chair, clothes horse/drying rack or mirror in main room. Shower had body wash, shampoo and conditioner but no other complimentary toiletries. Fares are cooled via louvred windows and a ceiling fan. The first fare we stayed in had a high vaulted thatched roof so the ceiling fan was up too high to have much impact. It was hot and humid. Upon return from an overnight tour, the resort checked us into a different fare, it was closer to reception etc and the vaulted thatched roof was lower, meaning the ceiling fan was actually effective. Included buffet breakfast was very basic, eggs are NOT included. The stand out for this resort is its infinity pool which was absolutely stunning. The beach is too shallow for any swimming unless it's high tide. Dining was quite basic. We ate out twice. Nearest restaurant is Three Pigs just 10 minutes walk away. Food is more expensive than in Australia no matter where you go. Easy to get local transport (vans marked with 'B') to/from town for 150VUT each. They drive past the resort regularly. WiFi at resort only works around reception, restaurant, bar and pool area.

I will start with the positives. Staff were all very friendly and polite. The location we were at was very good- right on the beach . Nice chill atmosphere , being an adults only resort. We enjoyed the fire dancing entertaining and the acoustic singer was good. Breakfast was basic but as someone who is a picky eater, I don’t mind basic simple foods like pancakes and toast. As an animal lover , I enjoyed the company of the resort cats. There were a few that frequented our bure. They were friendly and must be used to people as they didn’t shy away at all. (If you don’t like cats, then this may be an issue for you.) Free equipment was provided such as paddle boards and kayaks which is always a great addition. The jungle aesthetic was also really nice. The greenery of the plants and trees with the beautiful hibiscus 🌺 flowers was lovely for photos. The pool was lovely but only one of the nights I was able to go in as no one was allowed in the pool during dinner hours when the tables were close to the pool, or when an event was on. There was no signage to indicate this , we were only told by a staff member in person. Now I will list what I didn’t like. I don’t think this was a problem to any of the other guests as they all seemed genuinely unbothered by it- but I do feel the label “adults only” resort was a bit deceptive given there were several local children playing in the beach directly infront of the resort . I realize they were technically not trespassing as they weren’t on the resort grounds themselves , but they were making a lot of noise (yelling, laughing , general children noise) which I could hear from my bure. Ordinarily I’d accept this but given I had intentionally sought out an adults only resort to escape the noise from children (I have sensory issues and anxiety ) , this was a huge disappointment . I couldn’t really complain given noone had brought their kids onto the resort itself, but I do feel it was deceptive as this was listed as a private beach . I had also messaged the resort prior to booking to ask who had access to the beach and they said only guests of the resort and day visitors above 15 years old. Which was clearly not the case as there were local children on the beach every day . That would have to be my biggest complaint. I’m not sure anything will be done about it as I don’t think the resort management can legally tell them to leave the area if it’s the beach - but I think it should be mentioned in the description that while adults only, local children will still be present at the beach. Just for the sake of disclosure and transparency. As others have stated, there is no air conditioning in the rooms , but the ceiling fan was adequate and we were also given an extra floor fan upon request . There were lots of insects and mosquitos so bring repellent with you. There are repellent coils provided in the bathroom but the matches were poor quality and kept breaking so it was difficult to light the coils. Also, at breakfast alot of the fruits were uncovered and flies and other insects would be going on them. Which deterred me from having the fruits that weren’t covered . Also, the fries we ordered at dinner time were not very good and tasted like they had been reheated . My mother noted that the toaster also did not work and others had complained about this too. I didn’t mind the open shower as the walls were high enough to ensure privacy but if you are wanting an indoor shower or one under cover, this will be a problem. Also, this is where the majority of mosquitos were coming from, as the shower was completely open and we had to keep closing the bathroom door to make sure they stayed out of the bedroom. A mosquito net covering the shower or some sort of fly screen would be a solution for that. So to the management, I would recommend the following to enhance the enjoyment of the resort . •have the shower covered with some sort of netting or shelter to block out mosquitos from the bathroom. •have fruits and anything exposed at the breakfast buffet covered to ensure flies are not going on them. •provide additional fans to each room as the ceiling fan alone is not enough to cool the room. •make a note that whilst the resort does not allow guests under 15, there are local villager children that are present at the beach directly infront of the the resort . If I ever come back to Vanuatu again I will consider this resort , but I would be more confident in booking again if some improvements were made . Thank you Ellena
