I would suggest changing some money over for Bolivars, most of the items for sale in the hotel are equivalent to hotels in United States ... but if you switch it into bolivars everything is much cheaper.... the rooms … more

Great hotel in the heart of Caracas. If your American, it’s safe and friendly... I would suggest changing some money over for Bolivars, most of the items for sale in the hotel are equivalent to hotels in United States ... but if you switch it into bolivars everything is much cheaper.... the rooms are nice, bed is comfortable.. excellent shower.. They treated our team great!

“Excellent Rooms and Friendly Staff”

I made the regrettable error of choosing Caracas for a few days R and R. Without research I arrived in Venezuela and ahead of my arrival I booked Waldorf Boutique Hotel. I also organised to have a car meet me at the airport through the hotel which thankfully was there to meet me. Whilst I’m afraid I cannot recommend Caracas as a place to visit I can whole heartedly congratulate the owners of this hotel for having a little haven in the centre of the current madness that is Venezuela. The rooms are beautifully appointed with all modern facilities and the restaurant downstairs is run efficiently and by a friendly team. And I must thank in particular the Reception staff all of whom went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in some particularly testing circumstances. So if you are visiting Caracas I can absolutely recommend this hotel but sadly I have to say I can not recommend Caracas at this time as a destination.

“An oasis of calm and comfort in a dilapidated area of the city ”

I spent two nights at Hotel Waldorf on a trip to Venezuela. The hotel is located in the La Candelaria district, close to Centro Historico, El Calvario Park, and the National Art Gallery (Galería de Arte Nacional), which is quite convenient. However, despite the presence of a brand new shopping centre at walking distance from the hotel, the surrounding area is shabby and decrepit, turning the hotel into an oasis of calm and comfort. Rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and clean. Bathrooms are also quite large with well-functioning hot water. Staff is friendly and professional, although the English speaking proficiency is close to non-existent with the exception of the front desk. As I had to spend one day in Caracas and wanted to see the city, they immediately put me in touch with a professional city guide who took me to the main city's attractions. There is a small swimming pool on the top floor as well as a relatively small but decently equipped gym. The main negative point of the hotel was clearly food. The dinner was unremarkable but outrageously overpriced (47 USD for a starter and a main course without any alcoholic drinks) even by Venezuelan standards (all prices are in USD and tend to be extremely high). Breakfast was also not at the expected level, with few options and a limited number of fresh products (no banana, no mango, no fresh bread, ...). Management should definitely address this issue. Nevertheless, for those who don't want or don't need to stay in the east part of the city where most international hotels are located, Hotel Waldorf offers a good alternative. I have no hesitation to recommend it.

“Diamond in the rough”

This is a lovely kept hotel with nice staff that is in the shabbier part of Caracas (La Candelaria). The rooms are very spacious and the beds are firm. The shower has good pressure and the bathroom has toilet paper (which isn't common in Venezuela). There is a small outdoor pool and bar up on the terrace, along with a limited gym equipment on the 1st floor. Upon arrival and seeing the neighbourhood, I felt a slight culture shock. On entering the hotel I was greeted by friendly staff. The majority have a basic grasp of English and a few are fluent. It's a great opportunity to practice your Spanish. After a day or so I became more comfortable with the neighbourhood and this was aided by the assistance of the staff. They organised cabs for us to visit other areas (payment is quite difficult if you don't have Bolivars or small denomination dollars), and gave us advice on bars to visit and sites to see. The breakfast buffet was quite limited but there seemed a greater choice for the supper menu (which I didn't try). There is a lovely restaurant across the road which does reasonably priced Spanish food, It is called the Aquelarre. I'd have no problem staying here again as the staff and rooms were lovely and there is a city vibe in the surrounding streets (during the day). We went to Altmira one day and the area was less grotty, but it also lacked any vibe. It would be an ideal stop for a business trip.
