The Hanoi Evergreen -- apparently better known as the Hanoi EcoGreen Hotel -- like many small hotels in Hanoi, has a small sign and doorway. So you have to be alert in order to find it. Just look for the red communist flag with a yellow star hanging from the second floor... It is located in a busy, walkable neighborhood, with all kinds of sights to see. That was the nice thing about it. You could leisurely walk to all the sights... For places further away, I initially was thinking of renting a motorbike to get around at 5:50 USD for a day, but instead I found Grab, which is like Uber, and a trip was only like 50 cents. I could get 10 trips a day! No Uber in Hanoi... and no thanks to a rental... and the responsibility.... So rather than deal with the hassle, and the liability, I decided that Grab was going to be it. I wouldn't have to hunt for locations... And it worked out really well... The Evergreen is located on Hang Dong Street which is a busy road with all kinds of small alleys going off left and right. When you first walk in, it is kind of trashy, but I had booked a room that wound up to be on the 2nd floor, with two king size beds and a veranda overlooking the street below. It was delightful to have the veranda doors open with the activity of the outside waifing into the room... The beds were comfy with nice thick coverings, and if you can deal with the lack of enough electrical receptacles, you may have trouble making a connection, because most of them are worn and loose... Of the six available, only four were accessible... There are multiple switches which is a challenge to figure out which one does what - and most don't do anything at all. There are 10 of them. TEN SWITCHES in this small room!!! Initially the shower wand was broken and hanging, but they came quickly and repaired it. Hot water for the shower was plentiful, although brighter lights over the bathroom mirror would have been nice for shaving -- probably dim so that you don't see the fallen ceiling tiles... or the exhaust fan that doesn't work... What I thought was neat was that the shower was opposite the toilet, so I could sit on the toilet and wash my legs and toes conveniently... There is no table or something on which you can place your suitcase for unpacking. The architecture is wonderful. This must have been an old mansion at one time because the woodwork and fixtures are a delight to look at... if you can get by the sloppy wall painting job. You would think they would know better... The room door handle is definitely a period piece. It uses a unique flat key which is a challenge to get into the slot... If you look at the wall opposite the beds you'll find a period two-sconce light fixture, ruined by a sloppy white paint job on its side - too lazy to take it down and then paint -- and designed to be looked at and not used apparently. No way to turn it on... In the center of the tall ceiling is a wonderful five sconce, yes five, not six -- period chandelier. A dust collector - hanging by the wires... No way to turn it on... These would have been so nice to give a nice warm glow to the room. But apparently the powers that be decided that fluorescent lighting would be better, so inappropriate looking stark harsh lighting was installed on the walls... The room could use some paint touch up. There are wires hanging along the baseboard which does not make it look very attractive... I won't even talk about what the base boards look like... I suspect the positioning of one of the beds in a corner hides quite a few sins... I had a front room overlooking the street, so don't plan on taking any naps during the day. The tinsmith across the street hammers and makes racket all day long... And it's not much better at night. Traffic groans through until about 2:00 a.m. and then the street sweeping machine rattles by. What a racket it makes! I didn't realize how quiet a room could be until I switched hotels... Refrigerator, toothbrushes, toilet paper, no bar soap (liquid only), no rubbermat for the 'slippery when wet' bathroom floor, and slippers too small for MY feet, are supplied... But how can you complain for 22 USD a night... The staff was accommodating and very helpful. The girls were so sweet. I had air conditioning and a fan, but the fan was sufficient... Just don't get skewered by the television base hanging on the wall. The base legs stick out, ready to puncture anyone who is not careful as they pass...

“Not bad for cheap ”

I booked this for my last night in Hanoi. The lady owner was really lovely! Very helpful with a nice welcome cup of tea. The room was clean enough but could have been cleaner. I booked this for my last night in Hanoi. The lady owner was really lovely! Very helpful with a nice welcome cup of tea. The room was clean enough but could have been cleaner. Smelled alittle bit and bathroom alittle tight. But I cant complain for the cheap price. 190000 dong. She got me a taxi to airport for 250000 dong which is a good deal. Good budget hotel and they have dorms for around 70000 if you walk up and ask.

“Located in old quarters”

The hotel is located in old quarters where most of the tourist sites are also located. There are few Indian restaurants nearby. In one of the room the AC was not working.
