The Lavender Central provided us with the perfect base within Hanoi’s Old Quarter. It is a stone’s throw from some absolute gems around the city and made exploring Hanoi very easy. On arrival, a member of the team came outside and helped us with our luggage. We completed payment over a welcome drink before being shown to our suite. The room was a nice size and was clean on arrival. Amenities included a minibar, kettle, hairdryer and television. The bed was large and firm, perfect for us and our dodgy backs. We found it extremely comfortable throughout our stay. During our visit, roadworks were taking place outside overnight. Despite the soundproofing on the windows, the noise was still noticeable and did affect our sleep. This is, of course, not the hotel’s fault and has not influenced our rating. Breakfast is buffet-style and includes plenty of fresh fruit, including dragon fruit and passion fruit. The waiting staff are attentive and quick to serve coffee, which was always appreciated first thing in the morning. There is also a board with around eight cooked breakfast options available to order, so there should be something to suit most tastes. Around the room there were a few signs of wear and tear, but nothing significant. Everything worked as expected and felt safe and well maintained. The shower provided good water pressure and temperature control, making it a great way to cool off after a hot day exploring the city. The air conditioning unit was excellent and kept the room cool and comfortable. Returning from Hanoi’s heat and humidity to a blast of cold air felt like being welcomed home by an old friend. The Wi-Fi was generally good throughout our stay, although there were a couple of occasions when it struggled slightly and I found myself using 5G instead. When it was working properly, however, it was fast and reliable. Daily housekeeping kept the room tidy, made the bed, and replenished bathroom amenities including shampoo, shower gel, toothbrushes, cotton buds and a razor. We were particularly impressed when we had a lie-in one morning and left the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. Rather than interrupt us, the housekeeping team thoughtfully left two fresh bottles of water outside our room and later returned once we had left to make up the room, something you don’t get in European hotels. The spa menu is available until 11pm, and we took advantage of this on our final evening. We both booked 90-minute treatments, which came to approximately 1,900,000 VND (£53.20). It was a fantastic way to end our stay in Hanoi before moving on to Hue. We also used the laundry service. At 70,000 VND per kilogram (£1.96), it felt like a bargain and helped us keep our clothes fresh after several hot and humid days. There is something surprisingly satisfying about seeing a pile of clean laundry after travelling for a while. I’d like to thank the staff for making our stay so enjoyable. They were attentive, kind and always willing to help. It is also an excellent choice for English-speaking visitors, as most of the staff speak the language very well. Overall, Lavender Central offers a fantastic location, comfortable rooms and excellent service. We would happily stay here again if we return to Hanoi.
