I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Ahoy Hoi An in July 2026!! Initially planned for 2 nights but ended up staying for one week. Located only about 5 minutes away from the UNESCO World Heritage listed Ancient Town, Hoai River, Cua Dai beach and the Coconut Forest. Extremely stylish rooms, meticulously kept. Resort features swimming pools, spa, gym, meeting rooms and buffet breakfasts. Above all the owners and staff were highly professional, helpful and pleasant to interact with. I would give Ahoy Hoi An an 8 out 5 if I could!!

I booked Ahoy Hoi An Boutique Resort & Spa because it was listed as a 5-star hotel on Hotels.com and had excellent reviews. After staying here, I honestly don’t understand the ratings. Don’t get me wrong—it’s not a bad hotel. We had a pleasant stay overall. But a 5-star resort? I simply don’t see it. My guess is that many of the glowing reviews come from guests who haven’t experienced what a true 5-star hotel offers. 🛏️ Rooms – ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) The rooms are spacious enough, but that’s where most of the positives end. The air conditioning couldn’t decide whether it wanted me to freeze or sweat, hot water took around 15 minutes to arrive, and there was a constant musty smell in the room. Housekeeping also missed the details—dusty lamps, dust under the bed, and overall it didn’t feel particularly fresh. The beds are very firm. My wife loved them. My back filed a formal complaint. The biggest issue, however, is the soundproofing… or rather, the complete lack of it. I stayed on the fifth floor with the doors and windows closed and could still hear children playing in the pool, guests in the hallways, and staff talking over their walkie-talkies. If you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs. 📍 Location – ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) The hotel is about 15–20 minutes from Hoi An Ancient Town. That doesn’t sound far until you’re trying to get back in the evening and discover there aren’t many Grab drivers nearby. There are a few restaurants and shops on the surrounding streets, but nothing particularly memorable. Most of the time you’ll find yourself heading into town. 🏊 Amenities – ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5) There are two pools, although both are on the smaller side. Unfortunately, the water didn’t always look particularly clean, and I even cut my foot on a broken pool filter cover—which definitely wasn’t part of the holiday plan. The gym has a handful of older machines. Fine for a quick workout, but definitely not “gym bro approved.” One positive is the free shuttle service to both Hoi An Ancient Town and the beach, which makes getting around much easier. The spa was also a pleasant surprise. Treatments were good, reasonably priced, and definitely worth considering after a long day of sightseeing. 🍳 Breakfast – ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) Breakfast was probably the biggest disappointment. The selection was limited, and nothing really stood out. After a couple of mornings I found myself mostly drinking coffee and moving on. If breakfast is included, great. I certainly wouldn’t pay extra for it. The restaurant overall was also hit and miss. Some meals were enjoyable, while others were forgettable. Hoi An has fantastic restaurants—I’d recommend eating there instead. 😊 Service – ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5) The staff were always smiling, polite, and genuinely friendly. However, the attention to detail you’d expect from a 5-star hotel simply wasn’t there. When it rained, the cushions from the sunbeds were removed—which makes perfect sense. The strange part was that they never came back after the rain stopped, and guests had to hunt them down themselves. We also requested extra towels for our room, and they didn’t arrive until several hours later. That said, I do want to give credit where it’s due. After I cut my foot on the broken pool filter cover, one of the staff noticed I hadn’t come down for breakfast the next morning. They apparently thought it might have been because of my foot, so without us asking, they prepared a breakfast plate and sent it to our room. I had actually skipped breakfast simply because I didn’t feel like it, but it was a thoughtful gesture that I genuinely appreciated. It’s moments like that which show the staff care—they just need better systems and management behind them. ⚠️ A Few Strange Things A few other things stood out: * Outside food isn’t allowed. I’ve stayed at many hotels around the world, and this is the first time I’ve been told I couldn’t have food delivered. * There were exposed wires in the hallways. * No air conditioning in the corridors, making them uncomfortably warm. * Some parts of the property felt unfinished or poorly maintained, which didn’t match the advertised luxury experience. ✅ Overall – ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5) We booked two rooms at a reasonable price, so from a value perspective it wasn’t terrible. But if you’re booking because it’s advertised as a 5-star resort, I think you’ll leave disappointed. To me, this is a solid 3-star hotel with friendly staff, decent facilities, and a few nice touches like the shuttle service and spa. Unfortunately, inconsistent maintenance, weak breakfast, poor soundproofing, and a lack of attention to detail stop it from feeling anywhere near a luxury property. Would I stay here again? Probably not. There are better options in Hoi An if you’re looking for a true resort experience. If you’re expecting a comfortable, budget-friendly stay instead, you’ll likely have a perfectly decent time. ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
