We stayed in the Japanese style room on mattresses for just 1 night. If you're staying longer, you might want to consider a room with beds. But the room we had was perfect for one night - very spacious, good Wi-Fi. The top floor has a beautiful community area with laundry, tables, computers, and even an area with guitar and ukulele to play music. You can use bicycles for free to explore. There's convenient bus stops to get to major attractions and to the train station or bus stop to Sun Moon Lake if you have heavy luggage. I want to commend the friendly staff for handling a customer service situation. We booked our room via Agoda using Amex card a few days before arriving. The card went through and it showed a booking confirmation from Agoda. Apparently, the hotel doesn't accept Amex to reserve room even though the booking was confirmed via Agoda. I didn't check my email before arriving and there were emails telling me I needed to switch to non-Amex credit card to save room. Since we didn't reply with new credit card, our room was cancelled so we showed up without a reservation. The room we initially booked was no longer available. At first, they offered a more expensive room but after our persistence, the staff offered the room for the same lower price that we originally booked. I thought they handled this situation perfectly. Yes, we missed the email informing us that we needed to switch credit cards but once the booking was confirmed via Agoda, we didn't think of checking our email. Instead of making a few more bucks from our last minute situation, they now have a happy customer who will gladly stay here again and recommend this place to others.

Nice hotel/hostel near the train station. Also near the Miyahara, bus stations, and Chun Shui Tang. I got room 604G, I'd I remember correctly, and the A/C isn't strong enough to cool the whole room, and they discourage you from setting the temperature to below 20°C. Nice hotel/hostel near the train station. Also near the Miyahara, bus stations, and Chun Shui Tang. I got room 604G, I'd I remember correctly, and the A/C isn't strong enough to cool the whole room, and they discourage you from setting the temperature to below 20°C. If you're at the end of the room, you will find it too warm in the summer. One of the guys at the reception speaks excellent English and offered to lend me a small electric fan. The next day, housekeeping put a regular stand fan in ther room. They also offer free bicycle rentals. Definitely a plus for me.

I recommend this hotel: - Hotel location is near the station, about 15 mins walking. - Facilities are good in both bed area and bath/rest area. The room is clean and tidy. - Japanese style is pretty, simple but still comfortable. - Hotel has both rooms and dormitory beds. - The price sounds reasonable. - The staff were friendly and helpful to show me any places or transportation I asked. - The elevator is so small for 4 people. - Check-in time is so late (5 pm) => This should be improved much since it is the most wondering thing for me when booking this hotel. You still can leave your luggage at the reception at any time. P/s: Don't forget to collect a Kiwi stamp at the reception area. It is interesting.
