Java, Bali and Gili Air

Indonesia and its magnetic draw

The vast country of Indonesia, where nature rules the roost. With a fascinating and electrifying culture, people here live in harmony with the land and the sea. This tour is one of the best ways to discover that idyllic relationship, starting off on the island of Java, home to the Borobudur Temple Compounds, and continuing with Mt. Bromo and Mount Ijen. Bali, the Island of the Gods, land of rice terraces, will be the next stop, before arriving at Gili Air, where we'll be able to unwind and enjoy the coastline. Who could possibly resist this?

Yogyakarta

Transfer to hotel, where all trip-related documents will be handed out. Overnight stay.

Yogyakarta

Includes: Breakfast
Breakfast. City tour. We'll visit the Sultan's Palace and the Water Castle, as well as the central market and the oldest mosque in Yogyakarta. A traditional Javanese costume is required to enter the Kings Cemetery, which can be rented at the entrance. If we have time, we can take a stroll around the Kotagede neighbourhood to see the traditional houses there. Overnight stay.

Yogyakarta - Borobudur - Prambanan - Yogyakarta

Includes: BreakfastLunch
Early morning start today to watch the sunrise at the Borobudur Temple. We'll leave the hotel just before 4.00 am to head to the centre of the island of Java. This Buddhist temple was built in the eighth and ninth centuries by the Shailendra dynasty. It has three levels: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, a central part with three circular platforms and an upper part formed by a large stupa. After the sunrise tour, we'll enjoy breakfast. We'll then go to Candirejo, near Borobudur, where we'll take a horse and carriage ride through the villages to see rural life at its most authentic. We'll have the chance to join locals in playing the gamelan, a traditional Javanese instrument, and also enjoy a visit to a time-honoured food factory. Lunch. We'll then visit the huge Prambanan Temple, built in the ninth century by the Sanjaya dynasty at the foot of Mount Merapi. Overnight stay.

Yogyakarta - Mojokerto - Mt. Bromo

Includes: BreakfastLunch
Breakfast. Early departure to take the train to Mojokerto, arriving mid-morning. From there, we'll drive for around three hours over to the Bromo area. Lunch en route. Upon arrival, check-in at hotel and the rest of the day at your leisure. Overnight stay.

Mt. Bromo - Banyuwangi

Includes: BreakfastLunch
Early morning departure by jeep to admire the sunrise from Mount Penanjakan. If the weather is on our side, we'll be able to see Mount Semeru, with Mt. Bromo in the background. We'll then take a pony ride across the sand to see the active crater of Mt. Bromo. After this, we'll head back to the hotel for breakfast. Later in the morning, we'll set out towards Ijen. And in the afternoon, we'll arrive in Banyuwangi. Lunch and rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay.

Banyuwangi - Ubud

Includes: Breakfast
Today we'll visit Ijen. At around one in the morning, we'll set off by jeep to Ijen National Park, which opens its doors at 2.00 am. We'll start off with a ninety-minute moonlight trek, using torches to light up the path. We'll come across peasants and miners on the way. And then we'll reach the volcano crater. We'll decide among ourselves how close we want to get to this amazing natural spectacle. The Kawah Ijen volcano is the scene of some pretty unusual phenomena. The fire of the volcano is blue and releases sulphur dioxide, a highly toxic gas that is the main cause of acid rain. Flames adorn the descent of liquid sulphur rivers in full combustion. Watching the sunrise from the crater is a breathtaking experience. When the sun comes up, the crater lake starts to dazzle, contrasting with the grey of its walls and highlighting the turquoise waters, produced by the sulphur and aluminium sulphate. We'll head back to the hotel at around 9.30 in the morning in time for breakfast. At the arranged time with the guide, we'll head off to the port to take a ferry to Bali. Once there, a driver will take us to Ubud, situated in the heart of the island. Overnight stay.

Next stop will be the purifying waters of Sebatu, where the locals practise the ritual of Melukat, a symbolic and literal cleansing of the body and soul in order to ward off misfortune and bad luck, illnesses or adversities during everyday life. Important remarks

- Triple rooms in Indonesia are generally rooms with twin beds or a double, in which a folding bed is installed to accommodate the third person. Due to the inconvenience this causes, we advise against using this option as far the possible.

- The baggage allowance on domestic flights of most airlines in India is usually 15 kg per person, so lower than on international flights. Please take account of this when packing your bags.

- Please check with your international vaccination centre about the recommended healthcare measures in Indonesia.

- Indonesia is a Muslim country and the month of Ramadan is of major significance to its residents. During Ramadan, entertainment and alcohol will be restricted in most of the country. The sale of alcohol will be restricted in many places, although some establishments will offer alcohol for sale to tourists. During this period, local businesses may also have shorter opening hours.

- Depending on the return flight, the trip may be one day longer.

- To reconfirm services at the destination, please send us your passport details within 24 hours of booking.

- Please check which documents are required to enter the country.

- From May 2022, the monuments of Borobudur and Prambanan will be visited only from the outside, without accessing the structures.

- The Ijen volcano is closed on the first Friday of every month. We recommend, whenever possible, choosing a departure date that avoids this circumstance. In case of coincidence, the visit cannot be carried out.

- The order of the itinerary may be altered for logistical reasons, without prior notice, but no scheduled trips will be cancelled (except in the case that adverse weather conditions prevent its realisation).

- A credit card is considered a guarantee, so sometimes you will need one for check-in at hotels.

- Prices are calculated based on admission fees to the sights as of the date of publication. If there is an increase in these prices, you will be promptly informed.

- If you are a person with reduced mobility, please contact us to confirm the suitability of the trip.
