A rich heritage that you can admire in the historic city centre: Santa Ana Cathedral. This magnificent 7.000 square metre building was started in the 15th century. The expansion has finished in the 19th century and it combine Gothic, Neoclassical, local and Renaissance trends.

We recommend admiring the neoclassical facade, the impressive Gothic ceilingm the beautiful chapels... The Capilla de los Dolores (chapel) is highly recommended, created by Luján Pérez. Don't forge to climb to the viewpoint located in the bell tower, with beautiful views of the Port.

It is a unique setting to enjoy the sun and water sports with a stunning view of the dunes, the lagoon and palm trees that form the Special Natural Reserve. It is well known around the world. The golden sand, calm water and mild climate are inviting, 365 days a year.

The more than 3 kilometre coastline is frequented by people of all ages. Families usually stay near the Lighthouse, 55 metres high, that has become a symbol of the island. You will find the wave lovers in Playa del Inglés, one of the best places in Gran Canaria to surf, kitesurf and windsurf. Near this area there is a defined area for nudism, orientated to gay tourism, located in chiringuito 7.

Jardín Botánico Canario

The Jardín Botánico Canario Viera y Clavijo (Canary Botanical Garden) is the largest in Spain and is located in one of the most amazing places on the Island, 7 kilometres away from the capital, in the Guinigada cliff.

We recommend a calm walk around the site, where you learn about the diverse local plantlife with over 500 different species. The best time to visit is during the Spring. Don't be scared if you encounter a lizard during your trip!

LOST NATURE

Gran Canaria's lost nature is simply amazing. During your visits you will se species such as the old laurisilva woods.

You cannot leave the premises with a photograph with the millenary Gran Canaria Dragó, a sacred tree, considered one of the oldest in the world and one of the strangest.

VISIT EL JARDÍN DE LAS ISLAS

We recommend visiting Plaza de Viera y Clavijo, the bridge that joins the districst of Vegueta and Triana and el Jardín de las Islas, where you can learn all about the Archipelago's plantlife.

    BY BOAT

Las Palmas port is the Canary Islands' first port. It is used as a layover for cruises: over a million passengers from Mainland Spain and other islands visit this port every year. You can also get to Tenerife from Agaete Port. The journey is approximately an hour long.

The journeys from island to island are covered by Naviera Armas, Naviera Fred Olsen and Trasmediterránea.

    PACKAGE HOLIDAYS

May travellers buy package holidays including flights, transport to and from the airport and acommodation.

    Where can I stay?

In Gran Canaria you will find a wide range of hotels to suit all tastes and budgets. The incredible natural beauty has favoured the development of rural, charming hotels, ideal for relaxing holidays and for those who love hiking, nature and traditions.

There is a top selection of hotels available along all of the island's coastline, where you will find amazing Resorts and exclusive hotels. Check if your booking includes breakfast. It will probably be a buffet breakfast with a wide variety of cheeses, cold cuts, cereal, yoghurt, juices, breads and sweets. The majority of hotels include warm breakfast and local products. Like in the rest of the country, the emergency number is 112.
